We are now on hadith #5 of our an-Nawawi series! alhamdulillah.
On the authority of the Mother of the Faithful, Umm Abdullah, Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “Whoever introduces anything into this matter of ours that is not from it shall have it rejected.”
Recorded by Bukhari and Muslim. In one version by Muslim, it states: “Whoever does an at that is not in accord with our matter shall have it rejected.”
This hadith, with the first wording, was recorded by al-Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawood, ibn Maajah, Ahmad, ibn Hibbaan, al-Daaraqutni, Abu Yala and many others. The hadith with the second wording was recorded by Muslim, Ahmad, Abu Dawood, ibn Abu Aasim, al-Baihaqi and al-Daaraqutni. The second narration was also recorded by al-Bukhari, but in mualaq form, which means al-Bukhari did not record the entire chain of the hadith.
Just as the first hadith was a judge/scale for the internal aspets of our acts, this hadith is a scale for the external aspect of our deeds.
Al -Toofi called this hadith one half of the shari’ah (Islamic law) because evidences are sought to either affirm or deny an act and this hadith is a major premise in that process.
Next, inshaAllah we’ll do a short biography on Aisha radiyallahu ‘anha 🙂
